Fitness Philosophy
Mind, Body and Soul…
I believe health and fitness is a simple thing made complicated by today’s society. My fitness philosophy is pretty simple: If you’re relying on anything other than a healthy diet and exercise to achieve and/or maintain your health and fitness, then you are destined for failure. I know this isn’t a popular statement in light of today’s “quick fix” and “fast and easy” fitness plans, but I believe it is the truth.
There just isn’t any substitute for hard work. Of course, that’s not what most people want to hear, but in the long run that is the only way to safely and permanently lose the weight and become healthy and fit.
True health and fitness is a lifestyle. It’s something you do every day, whether you feel like it or not, just like showering and brushing your teeth. You work out because it’s the right thing to do for your body, and because it will result in a longer and healthier life – even if the results are not immediately visible.
If you are relying on a miracle pill, fad diets or exercise gizmos to achieve your weight loss goals, eventually you will fail. Even if you do reach your goals through these methods, you still won’t achieve a healthy lifestyle. Once you stop using the pills or doing the fad diet, you will fall right back into the same shape you were in before because you didn’t really learn how to change your lifestyle in order to maintain.
It is estimated that 65% of our population is considered overweight with 30% being obese, and it can be traced to two major factors. Either your eating habits are bad or you are not exercising enough – or both. If you want to get to the root of the problem, you must address both of these factors.
You can deal with your body in one of two ways.
1. You can take a pill or use the “fitness gizmo of the month” to temporarily mask your problem. You will find, however, that any results gained from these methods are only temporary. The real problems – your poor eating and exercise habits – are still there.
Or
2. You can get to the root of the problem and deal with your eating and exercise habits, making real, life long changes. While this is the slower and more labor-intensive method, it is the only way to really deal with the problem and gain lasting results.
If you have neglected your health and fitness for a long time, it may appear to be nearly impossible to get where you need to be. But if you start now using sound principles, staying determined, committed and positive, results will come. And, more importantly, they will last.
AND remember, you ARE worth it!!
